The Chautauqua Institute is a "must experience" for you seekers....
by Alpaca inhey all,.
several years ago, when i was in one of my really "sour on religion" phases, some of my post-borg new friends introduced me to the chautauqua institute, near jamestown n.y.. this is one of the coolest places on the planet.
the institute was started by some methodist ministers in the 1800s as a forum for dialogue between religion, hard science, and the social sciences.

Who has lost faith?
by logic&reason ini am curious about who (after leaving) went on to other religions vs. lost faith completely.
once i started questioning the wt society, i began to question everything.
as jw's we are taught from childhood up that other religions are false - so it seems easy, after elliminating the last one, to be rid of religion altogether.. .

This is cool.
I have been doing off-road coverage testing of a new NY State Public Safety mobile radio network in Chautauqua County for the last two weeks. I did on-road testing in October and November and in January and February. The last two weeks (7 days a week, 10 to 12 hrs a day) has been spent hiking into the remote areas, in the snow, with two other engineers and over 100 lbs of test gear plus survival gear to do this testing.
Today we were up in the hills just west of the Institute.
Tomorrow is my first day off in 5 weeks.
I have driven past the Institute at least a kabillion times while out here for work and often wondered what it was about. I had planned to check it out when I get back home this weekend.
You just put it firmly on my radar. Along wit "Zen and The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance" which I read 30 years ago while a member of the collective.
BTW, Chauataqua County is absolutely beautiful.
Peace, LoB

So . . . . homer, care to name some of your favorite artists?
I saw Stevie Ray when he was coked out of his mind . . . he still played great music though.
I saw Clapton finish a show on his back, too drunk to stand . . he still played great music though.
I watched Steppenwulf doing lines off the tops of their amps during a show . . still played great music though.
I watched Lynrd Skynrd play a show bombed out of their heads, smoking weed on stage . . still played great music though.
WTF is your point?
Creative genius many times brings addictive personalities along with it.
I stand by my statement about judgemental and narrow minded.

Not into drug induced music
homerovah. . .would you care to provide some evidence that Patti Smiths music is drug induced? Name a few artists that have never done herb or chemicals.
You come off just as judgemental and narrow minded as your old testament namesake.
BTW . . it's Patti . . not ~Patty~

She popped up on my radar when I saw her do "Gloria" on (I think it was) SNL years ago. That chick has got "Attitude" by the cartload. She can keep the hairy armpists . . just keep writing great songs. I find smart/talented/intellectual women extremely sexual, at that point looks don't mean alot . .LOL!
NPR aired an extended interview with her when she was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. She speaks of her JW childhood.
My Favorite quote:
Terri Gross: What's the nature of your faith now? Are you in an organized religion?
PS: Oh no. No. [Laughs.] Not at all. I just, I say my prayers and, and, continue, my studies but I basically, for me I don't really prescribe or need a religion. I what's important to me is my communication with what I perceive to be god
